1987 EZGO 2PG Broken Starter Mount

Hi everyone I just looked into fixing this cart for a friend and found the starter still mounted to the bracket but just resting loose on top of the motor as if it was broken away from the case where it mounts, the head of the engine side (drivers side) looks like something not quite right there some scuffing and maybe bolts sheared at the head area, a good sized chip off one of the fins also. Is it a very common thing to find this happen, looks like some obvious abuse, the claim I've heard is that the case was damaged and it needed a new motor, just wondering if trying to pull it and fix just might be doable for the time and price or should I be looking to grab another somewhere and just save the labor and down time plus who knows about all the other goodies that could be bad with it not sure on how it ran or how long its been since it ran, I Guess first things first check out closer the damage and do the Comp.test any ideas on where to go for a complete reman or used 2pg. After reading all the stuff on this site I want to put the 20hp Honda engine in it NOS bottle and a Borla Header but I'm not the owner and I'm pretty sure he likes the reverse.
