Re: steering
On top of the steering box there is a screw (mine has a flat head) with a jam nut. Loosen jam nut, turn in screw to take up play, go a little at a time making sure it doesn't bind. You will probably need to pull front body off to make adjustment.

Re: steering
Repack the steering box VERY full with grease, then adjust the jamb nut.

Re: steering
IIRC oil but if it leaks it all goes out. Best thing to do is pack it with wheel bearing grease then you don't have to worry about it. Since it moves at low speed the grease will lubricate fine and not leak out.

Re: steering
The box will wear in the center of steering where it gets used the most. So adjust it turned if you want and try it. Usually if you adjust in center it will bind when you turn sharp, you do NOT want that it will not go back to straight easily like it should. Its kind of unsafe. Loosen it up a little in that case. You will have to move it around and find the best spot, but its easy to adjust so not a big deal.
When you fill the box (unless you pump it in there somehow) and get it back together tighten the adjustment up some until it turns hard, then back out, then adjust it. That will force all the slack and grease out of the gear so you get normal contact in there. It is easier to jack up the front of the cart so you can easily feel any resistance in the steering with the tires hanging in the air. |
