Default RXV voltage reducer/battery advise....

I have an 09 RXV that I have been working on and now at the point that I want to start to add electrical goodies, radio, additional lights and possibly a small winch. Have had some tell me that there is no need for a voltage reducer but it seems to me that pulling form the entire bank would be better than pulling from just one battery all the time. I have room for an aux bat but not sure I want to go that route. My usage is close to home on about 30 ac so if I die I can walk... get the atv and drag her home. But I see the advantage of that route and may be cheaper for a deep cell and trick charge on that route...

What are thoughts on this issue.

Also, I have gel batteries and I have been told two different stories on charging them.... keep'em hot all the time but then told run them down then charge.... my usage is hilly. input here to please.

And.... a big shout out to Outback Fab for the really cool front brush guard/winch mount/basket combo that Santa brought me!

Thanks,

K

I would suggest not tapping individual batteries to get 12 volts. You might consider installing a separate 12 battery and using an external battery charger.

kstutz, think of it like this, for pretty much the price of a voltage reducer you can buy a aux. battery and not worry about power being taken from your pack. Yea, I know a voltage reducer is a one time purchase and you'll have to eventually buy another battery but, if you're running many electrical components you'll be more satisfied with the aux. battery. I've had a voltage reducer but now I have an aux. battery. I've got headlights, foglights, rear lights, radio and a couple of other things pulling from my aux. battery and I do quite a bit of night time riding, only had lights go dim one time and I was heading home then. Trust me, if you've got many electric comp. , you'll feel better about them not draining your pack while your riding.

Thanks gang..... Kojo, I like the way you are thingking... Last night I had a thought that since I have lights that get me around pulling off just 1 in the bank if I did go aux battery I would have those as back up to get me home if I drained the aux. The LED technology these days draws very very little....

STill looking for some input on the charging of gel battery packs.....
