Default '85-'86 G2E resistor wiper arm broken

Mornin! My problem is that the wiper arm contact had welded itself to the last (top speed) contact and the plastic arm was broken. I have the parts to fix it but don't want to until I find out if this happened just because it's an old and original part, or something else caused it. Appreciate your wise feedback in advance ! First cart I ever had...no experience

It's very common. Make shure all the stationary contacts are level and smooth. Install new arm with moving contact. Make shure the arm and contact hit the first (no power contact) with the pedal not depressed. Also make shure the arm and contact only hit the very last stationary contact when the pedal is fully depressed. You can adjust the rod at the pedal for that. Lastly, you should drive your car at wide open throttle as much as possible, that way 36 volts is going straight to the motor. If you creep around, the 36 volts is cutdown thru the resistor coil and creates alot of heat on the contacts/wiring and resistor coil. Good luck
