Default Solenoid problem?

Hey guys I'm new to the whole golf cart scene purchased a 1982 electric club car put all brand new batteries in it drove it around for a little under a week had no problems. Now, I took it out last night and the cart wanted to keep driving after I turned the key off I had the parking break on and couldn't tell it wanted to keep driving. But the solenoids were still getting a charge like the foot pedal was down and I go back out to my garage a couple hours later and my golf cart was smoking and melted the paint right behind the main seat, I open the seat and see the coils connecting the solenoids together were CHERRY RED I unplug the series of batteries, now doing wire testing I couldn't find anything wrong. I lifted the rear of my golf cart so that it wouldn't drive off on us and hit the right solenoid with a small hammer and it would stop the golf cart! Is it the solenoid gone bad? Any quick help would be greatly appreciated since I'm calling before the hour to get a replacement solenoid but I just wanted to hear your guys points on this.

Thanks a lot guys and gals!
