Voltage regulator on my G1

I have a new starter/generator on my 1982 G1. I charged the battery up and it will work fine for a couple of hours and then it starts turning over slower and slower until it won't start. The battery is only a couple of years old and tests fine. How do I test my voltage regulator, or is there something else I should be looking at?

Sounds right, there are a couple fuses you can check. If you put it in neutral and idle it up some, you should see voltage increase at the battery if its charging with any cheap voltage meter. The two small wires that hook to the generator are the charging ones, check all connections before you replace something is what I am saying as that can be a common issue. With my lights they get brighter when I take off normally so I can tell its charging, but it does not do much at idle speeds.

Thanks, I will check the conections first and then hook the meter up. I did check all the fuses and they are ok.

IIRC the system is same or similar on G1, or search some G! threads on charging there must be tons of them here.
