Default #90 Main Jet Drill Size

Can anybody tell me what size of drill bit, or the I.D. of a #90 main jet for a ezgo 350 carb is. I have a #82 I want to drill out. I'm a toolmaker and have access to small #drills. I just milled .030 off my 04 MCI ST350 head and it bumped the compession from 180 to 195 psi. Runs fine but needs more fuel. Hence the #90 main jet.

Thanks Jim

Don't know if this will help but here it is.. I did a 295 head on a 350 block and used the 350 carb. and jet. My compression jumped from 150 to 245. With such a drastic change, I had fuel volume issues and the jet was the problem. I had a 90 and didn't have anyway to gauge how much to overbore so I had to improvise. I used a set of torch tip cleaners to gently shave off and enlarge the bore of the jet. I found the closest one that would fit and gently removed material a little at a time. After each session I replaced the jet and did a test run until I achieved the desired flow. This way I didn't overbore. It was time consuming, but it worked and it didn't ruin the jet.... Hope this helps ya!!

Drilling and poking wires down your jets is all well and good but the damage you might achieve with this "poke and hope" method is rarely worth the price of admission. Running lean will cause your motor to potentially pre-detonate and /or burn out pistons or valves prematurely whilst the obverse will cause excessive carbon deposits, fouled plug/s and a myriad of other problems. Some very clever people got together and designed these engines to run at optimum conditions under the most strenuous conditions (If they didn't, they wouldn't have a reputation to uphold) Simplest test is check your spark plug colour after an honest run to simulate all normal conditions. A light to medium brown should indicate all is good with the fuel / air ratio. Darker is running rich which is preferable to light which would indicate a lean condition.

Stump... If you can find a bit and mimic the same process I did, it should work out for ya... I dont know about a " poke and hope " and don't care. Seein as you have a somewhat mod. engine and need more fuel, these clever people that " got together " really doesnt matter b/c your engine isn't stock persay. You can buy larger jets, but opening the bore is possible w/o destroying the jet and is very much worth the PRICE OF ADMISSION!!

I would be interested in what size jet is needed for a 350 w/295 head. I dont mind ordering the jet because I havent started building the motor yet but I will have to open it up one way or another since all I have is 2 295 carbs.

wouldnt drilling out a jet, opening the hole up provide more fuel and therefore be a more rich air/fuel mixture?

Red!!! I can't help but agree with you. Why is it when you ask a simple question somebody always wants to explain the theory of relativity to you? I had some dick do the samething in an outboard motor forum when I asked if anyone changes ECU programs on a 150 optimax. He thought I was going to burn up all the oil fields. First off I'm 59 Yrs Old. I drag raced NHRA (class) D/HotRod Formula1 for a number of years. Played with and built Harleys. Currently a Product Developement Specialist for the most major tractor company in the world. Where we play with fuel mapping, firing pressures, injection timing and a miriad of other things. I also am a card carrying Journeyman Tool Maker. All I want to know is what the ID of a #90 Main Jet is. I have a #82 which is a .031 ID and a #85 which is a .032 ID. This cart I have came from Colorado and has a #85 for high alt. 90's are used here in Iowa and I can't see paying $25 for a piece of brass with a hole in it. And yes I know there is more to jets than that. You can call me cheap. I'll call it thrifty. Now I'm going to go out in my shop an drill out my #82 jet to .035.
Oh also I have a 11" Logan Lathe and a Bridgeport with a 9X42 DRO table in my home shop. Both fully tooled and I do all my own work and machine work.

Thanks Jim

"Update" I drilled out my #82 jet to a .035 ID using a #65 drill bit. It made my throttle response much better, it doesn't fall on its face now when I go from idle to full throttle. I would like too know how close .035 is to a #90 jet. A couple of things I would like to add that I have done on this engine other than mentioned in previous posts are. The stock muffler mod by taking the stock tailpipe off welding it closed and relocating a piece of 1" pipe coming from the bottom side of the muffler under the diff. I also modified the flywheel which has a .200 wide key by milling .100 off and rotating it clockwise to advance the timing. I'm not sure how many degrees that is. I'll figure it out later when time allows. This is a 350 MCI engine some of these mods I have done on my pre MCI 295 all with success. Havn't messed with the cam yet. I'm looking into having a stock cam reground to my specs. I'm not hearing any really good remarks about the performance cam that is being offered by online vendors.
