Default No continuous spark....only sparks once..Ignition coil??

I have a 88 EZGO that I just picked up...this is my first cart project so forgive me if this has been discussed. I did try a search.

So I have spark but only when I first press the pedal and that's it. It doesn't contiually spark while the motor is turning over. Any idea what this could be? Ignition coil?

Thanks in advance...this looks to be a very helpful forum!

Welcome to BGW!

Look for the red and blue wires coming out of the motor case. These should lead to a connector going to the ignitor. Make sure the connector is clean and tight.
Please let us know what you find.

What do you know....the wires were disconnected where they plug together at the plastic clips. Gosh I love forums. Thanks so much for the suggestion, easy fix, she fired right up! Now to adjust the micro-switch, it's backfiring when I let off the pedal.

Congrats. Make sure the throttle plate is completely closed when the pedal is all the way up.
