Default 1988 2pg engine mods

Hi
I'm trying to make some modifications to my engine while having it apart for overhaul. How much can i shave off the cylinder head of my 2pg and not have contact issues. Does anyone know? And can I use a 3pg piston so I get more fuel air into the chamber because of the bigger vent holes in the 3pg piston?

I went .040 off the head. I don't think there is much more to spare, maybe a bit. We think the 3 pg piston will fit, but the 2pg jug will limit any improvement. The ports in the jug are different. there are some options but it all depends how far you want to take it. Something to check out,

The 3pg holes have a divider that covers part of the 2pg booster port, so it's not the way to go. You can do a lot else, though.

I cut .060 after doing the math and measuring squish clearance. It all helps, as stock the quench is too wide to do any thing. It won't hit regardless of amount cut, but too much compression is bad too.

I cut the reed cage for a big single-pedal, and will be modding an even bigger cage to fit. I feel that is the biggest restriction on an 88.

I'm cutting some base spacers to raise the ports without having to grind. You'd cut the top of the jug a like amount to get the compression back.

I know that Morgan has spent countless hours modifying the 2pg. From what I understand, his competition can't understand how he out-runs them.

Here's the stock head vs. a milled and polished one, this is the one TheGDFP did up that I have. Also here's the assembled pics of the bored out reed cage.

Warning: very large pictures!

Morgan is also a 2pg wizard. He's helped me out a couple times when I needed 2pg guidance and gotten me out of a muffler jam once.

Very nice! I had been trying to get the reeds farther down inside to limit added case volume, but maybe it's no big deal?

Honestly, I didn't think about "case volume". What effect do you think extra volume would have? It's almost exactly the height of the aftermarket reed cage.
