Re: Clear coating polished aluminum?
What did you use for the engine paint. I am thinking to start pulling mine bit by bit and painting?

Re: Clear coating polished aluminum?
I have a set of polished rims on my f250. They are severly dull and have brake dust stuck on them. Will the delimer work on this if not what can be used? Where can I get this stuff and what polish is strong enough. Any tips would be appreciated.

Re: Clear coating polished aluminum?
This is how i do it. The more you sand it, and the smoother you get the aluminum The better it will look

Re: Clear coating polished aluminum?
You can use a semi chrome polish, it used to be at bike shops (for harleys), works like a charm on alum. Another is bumper polish for chrome bumpers. If its nice and machined I have cleared and it worked great, such as for car wheels, but I used clear car paint urethane like you would put over base coat. Its way better, way more expensive. I used that acid for alum, like to clean pontoons as they don't sell it for wheel cleaner anymore. Rinse, dry, polish dry with nothing or a clear coat scratch pad, clear it.
If its rough cast alum you need to sand it and work finer to a polish, its a lot of screwing around. Look up how to polish an alternator for an example. |

Re: Clear coating polished aluminum?
I used semi chrome for my polish,my neighbor had a old can in his garage and it worked great after two fine sandpaper rubs and some scotchbrite. It does almost look like chrome. If I can figure out how to post pics I'll post them
