EZGO DCS Speed
New to the forum and new to golf carts.
I have read it is costly to increase speed on a EZGO DCS. I am not looking for crazy speed... If I were to put a new controller like an Alltrax DcX in it...would that increase the speed? If it does...is it an Alltrax DcX 300 or 400? Would i have to upgrade anything else to not create any problems? I ask these questions assuming this would increase speed. I really don't want to put that much money into it. Thx Skip |

Re: EZGO DCS Speed
First, nothing is cheap, but nothing is expensive... but your results will depend how much money you put into it...
I am somewhat of a noobie working on carts, but by reading these fourms over tha past year... An easy way to increase speed is a controller and solenoid upgrade... Will have to get Scotty or Johnnie for better numbers... But I think by going to a 400A controller and a 400A solenoid (upgrade the wiring as well to atleast 4ga but overkill is better, I personally went to 2awg). I think you could get to 20mph... Again I am no expert but by reading post and my own toying.... Increase tire size has potential for some extra speed, but a loss of torque. It all depend what your end goal will be. As for cost, it will range in who you decide to buy from, there is a list of Site Sponsors... But for me it was about $500 - (for controller, solenoid, wiring). |

Re: EZGO DCS Speed
Increasing the speed of a SepEx drive cart (DCS or PDS) electrically, is less expensive than increasing the speed of a Series drive cart.
Increasing the speed mechanically (tire height and/or differential gear ratio), is about the same for both type drive systems; And going to a higher speed motor is roughly the same also. Installing a DCX controller in a DCS is basically a Plug-n-Play upgrade and will up the speed to into the 20MPH neighborhood on stock height (18") tires with Stock (12.44:1) gears at 36V. You will also need to replace the stock (85A) solenoid with something more substantial (200A or 400A) and most likely need to replace the high current cables, all 10 of them to at least 4Ga. (The cables ought to be upgraded even if the controller and solenoid is not upgraded, the stock 6Ga are too small to get optimal performance from a stock controller and solenoid.) Carts Unlimited is selling a DCX400DCS controller with a 200A controller for $479 (Kit#505 near bottom of webpage): http://www.cartsunlimited.net/alltrax-dcx-controls.html |

Re: EZGO DCS Speed
Can someone help me with a cables question?
In previous reply, it was suggested to replace all 10 cables on my DCS. I am trying to account for which 10 to upgrade to 4 GA. I was looking at the PDF schematic and see... 5 cables that connect batteries 1 - 6 1 cable to battery number one 1 cable from battery number 6 What are the other 3? The schematic looks like 4 running to the motor? Thx Skip |

Re: EZGO DCS Speed
Thanks for answering my newbie questions.
I got this golf cart and guess i have the bug now to upgrade it. Another question... There are 2 wires going to the motor which is down by the back tires or behind the seat. Any tips or tricks on accessing the motor to swap out those cables? I watched a YouTube video, but the guy had the back part of the carts body off the frame to access the cables. Thx Skip |

Re: EZGO DCS Speed
Remove the motor access panel or if a rear seat is covering the access remove the rear wheels for better access.
