Default Does my starter need a rebuild?

G9 Starter Question for the experts...

been having more and more issues getting my starter to turn the engine over..

the belt is not slipping on the starter.. it will turn and stop at the highest point of compression...

I have to help spin the flywheel to over come the compression to get it going..

seems to be more of an issue when the temperature is colder... once the engine is warm it turns over fine.

Been looking for info on how to rebuild a starter as buying a new one seems a bit expensive...

Thanks for the feedback..

Are all your connections clean and tight? Is your battery at full charge? Just make sure everything else is good before getting another starter. My brother in law bought another starter and found it was corrosion in some connections. So now he has 2 good starters. Also easy enough to pull the rubber brush covers off and get a little look see inside.

QB - Rebuilding a starter/generator is a fairly simply job. There's a youtube video on how to do it. Like Ray said though make sure all connections are clean and tight first. Here's the video.

I did find that the starter turned over fine with the battery at full charge... ( working on what's killing my battery. i.e the "key on" post...)

the belt keeps slipping, looks like I need to tighten the belt some.

still need to inspect the starter brushes for wear and give it a good cleaning..

I did my brushes in the fall before putting away cart, easiest $30 fix a guy could do. My cart wouldn't turn over, I thought it was a low/bad battery, but it was the starter. I should have taken photos of mine during the repair.

If you are going to pull the starter, have it bench tested. I had a problem with my G! starting and went through the whole check list of possibilities. before you even remove the starter, the next time you cant get it started check the starter and make sure you are getting power to the starter. I downloaded the electrical system diagram from this website. if you have problems finding it , let me know
