More Torque Needed - 2003 Club Car DS
I am new to golf carts, so I am in the learning process. I have a 2003 Club Car DS with a High Speed Series motor. My problem is that it will not go up the ramp to my Toy Hauler Trailer without getting a running start. Otherwise it runs great and fast. I have a 48 volt system with new Trojan batteries. I have been told that if I had a stock motor it would have enough torque to climb the ramp, so I was hoping to find someone that had a stock motor and wanted to trade for the high speed one, but no luck there so far. Looks like my only option is to buy a new motor with more torque, so I'm looking for advice on what type motor I need to purchase, a factory stock motor, or after market torque motor. I'm told they are both about the same price. I only use the cart in a camp ground so I do not need a lot of speed just enough torque to get up the ramp. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Another option to increase the torque on a Series CC is to replace the Controller with a higher amperage controller. That way you keep the speed and increase the torque.
I had a 96 CC series cart and I added a high speed motor and 400 amp controller. It would climb into my pickup bed with no trouble at all. |

Try the new Alltrax SR400 with 460 peak output or GE 500 amp control. Don't forget to upgrade the solenoid too.

I know the batteries are ok. I have all new Trojans just installed last week.
Thanks for the tips on the controllers. |

I think it should make it up the ramp in stock form. My cart has a stock motor and controller with 23 inch tires and can stop on the ramp and climb up.

Treyz ..... I think my problem is the High Speed motor. If I had the stock motor I think it would go up the ramp fine. I wish I had the stock motor. I have been trying to find a used one, but have not had any luck.

Understood. I wonder if your high speed motor has different gearing.

Re: More Torque Needed - 2003 Club Car DS
I found a used stock motor at a local dealer for $200.00 and installed it yesterday. It works perfect for what I need. Thanks to everyone for their input.
