Default How much do I torque down hub

When I install the nut onto the spindle how tight should I tighten it against the hub?

I usually snug it up and then back off 1/4 to 1/2 turn....

For tapered cylindrical roller bearings yes... For sealed radial ball bearings as used in a President no. I don't know the torque spec but would venture to say snug until tight.

Don't know the spec but on mine I tighten the nut snug, then when I turned the hud it was tight so I backed it off so the hub turned free. Your snug may vary.

Not something I've done just yet so I working off of general engineering here. Is there a spacer tube in between the two bearing in the hub? If not then you would be right if you tightened it too much you would be pulling the inner races and that would indeed make hard to turn....

You want to snug (1/32 to 1/16th of a turn)then rotate hub forwards and backwards a few revolutions to set the bearing and grease . There are INCH pound torque specks if your not sure . Most bearings I done have been between 10 and 25 inch pounds . Most importantly.... now back the nut off again to the nearest castle nut groove to cotter pin hole in spindle . Finger tight basically.

Tighten it up until the hub has no in or out movement on the shaft. It's a dimpled lock nut and will stay where you put it. There are no cotter pins or castlenuts on a Precedent. The hubs have sealed bearings in them with a spacer in between them to keep you from crushing the bearings.
