12v Power Outlet
I want to install a 12v cigarette style power outlet on my 1999 G16. Can I splice the power wires directly to the 2 key switch wires? Or should I go back directly to the battery. The outlet will be fused.

Re: 12v Power Outlet
Personally I would go straight to battery even though it is fused just for some odd reason if it shorts out its better to toast the wires you ran to the battery rather than part of the wiring harness

Re: 12v Power Outlet
I would suggest using a relay switch connected to the keyswitch. this way the outlet will be active when the key is on and will be off when the key is off.
Not sure what the existing keyswitch wires can handle, you may be ok with only minor things on the outlet... but why risk it.. |

Re: 12v Power Outlet
if you want to actually use a cigarette lighter, do not wire it to the key wires directly, too much amps (not big enough for a air pump either). if you only want to power Usb devices, phone chargers, gps, ect, go for it.

Re: 12v Power Outlet
On mine I did what qb100 said and ran a signal wire from a toggle switch to a relay and then used a larger gauge wire to power the 12v outlet. I was going to use power from the key but with the 3 way key switch on the G1 I decided to just use a toggle for simplicity (and the fact that I have two kiddos that love to play around on the cart and didn't want one of them to accidentally step on the pedal while the key switch was on).

Re: 12v Power Outlet
It will be strictly for USB type devices. Phones, blue tooth speakers and such.

Re: 12v Power Outlet
Always use a relay, driven by the contact; whatever you need today, it will evolve! And remember to add a fuse!!!
It is not the cost I hope |
