2011 radio install running 16v
Hello I have a club car precedent 2011 model. I just purchased a kenwood marine head unit and 2 kicker 6.5" led speakers.
Here's my question I hear horrible things about voltage converters. So I don't want to use one. Most all car stereos will tolerate 16volts. Has anyone run their stereo on two batteries or 16 volts yet? the manual page states the tolerance. ( automobiles typically run at 14.4 not 12 volts anyway) |

Bad idea unless your head unit can tolerate it... Head units are cheap and replaceable but still a bad idea because your setting up a scenario where you unequally draw power for a set of batteries vs a pack.
2 drive a head unit and 2 4ohm speakers (I have the same ones) isn't that much load. Just buy a small one from one of the site sponsors and you will be set. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What horrible things do you hear about voltage reducers that makes you want to treat your batteries unfairly? I've had zero issue with my 48/12 unit in 2 years.... |

Look in the owners manual, it may also be printed on the label on the head unit. "Input power" and should have a range, woul be real close I'm sure since like you said a car alternator is usually putting out around 14 volts when it's running...

Re: 2011 radio install running 16v
I am using Bluetooth from my cellphone and my ipod and installed a creative iRoar speaker that is self powered and rechargeable with 10 hours of battery time and just put it on the dash. It cranks loud and clear, and it's removable so it can be placed in the glove box when I leave the cart. Works great, sounds great, takes up virtually no room and absolutely no cart battery drain....

Was the dealer talking about the 16-12 volt reducer. They are not good on the 8 volt battery set up. A 48-12 volt reducer pulls power from all the batteries and work great.

Well take it for what its worth but not using a voltage reducer will in fact shorten the battery life on the entire pack especially when the draw is on the larger side... As to overheating and melting down the plastics not saying that it never happens but I've not heard of it in the 2 years I've hung out here... |

Voltage reducers are reliable and efficient. That is a much better solution.
