Default G2-G9 clutch problem

Hey guys I just picked up a used cart not sure yet if it's a G2-G9 but I was trying to install a drive belt and it will not fit, and noticed the clutch is not fully (out) it's more towards the motor and not letting the belt to slide down so what might that problem be?

one or more of the rollers inside the clutch are probably flat preventing it from opening. sometimes if you tap it with a hammer it will release, but you will probably need a new clutch or rollers. open the clutch cover and you can examine the rollers, and do not run the cart with the cover off

I noticed a new clutch is $189-$215+ would it be cheaper to buy a rebuild kit or just the rollers ?

lol well before you run and order it, just for kicks don't you think you should open the clutch cover and look anyway? I'm just telling you that is the most likely cause of your issue, but it's always good to look yourself

Rollers on a g2/g9?...... Take the clutch over off and see if you have any broken weights that are holding the sliding sheave from releasing

Yeah sorry guys, not rollers but more like sleeves. I was insistent he actually looked inside the clutch before buying anything . That picture is exactly the reason I told him to make sure he does not run it with the cover off! A couple years ago I had the cover off a g19 and my friend hit the gas and bang that thing exploded. I'm guessing if it hit any of us in the head it could kill

Don't bother to fix the clutch. Its just not worth it. If the clutch face is worn, your asking for trouble. I know a lot of people have issue with the team clutch, but I have no issues with them and that's the direction I would go. I wouldn't do any of the aftermarket clutches.
