G1 steering problem
I have an 85' G1 that has steering issues, the previous owner made his own 6" lift kit, with "S" shaped tie rods and bent steering arms. I lowered the cart down two inches by shock mounts and put straight tie rods on it. I centered the steering and now when you turn all the way out right or left, the tie rod will get straight with the steering arm, bounce past center and get stuck in that direction. Looks like the steering stops don't make contact until its all the way stuck.
Do I need to lengthen the steering arms? Change angle? Or fab new stops? I'd like it to have a better turning radius Thanks |

re: G1 steering problem
First pic is tires straight
Second is steering all the way right Third is what it does when it's at lock, it slips past center. With weight on it, it won't steer back |

re: G1 steering problem
Tie rod links should be basically level to work properly. hard to tell from those angles if they are. That being said with multiple mods to the front usually creates a steering geometry nightmare. good-luck

re: G1 steering problem
my stock G1 tierod links are roughly 11 3/4 center to center might be a good starting point.

re: G1 steering problem
Thanks for the responses, I'll try raising the mounting points on my arms and see if that helps, there's probably 2 inches of drop from the Pittman arm to the ball joint.
