Default axle came out

Friend of a friend called and said cart just stopped and they pushed it home but the axle kept coming out with the wheel attatched .....so what holds it in and how much trouble is it to repair? I think he said they pulled it out and it had threads on the end? Not sure about this ..... thank you in advance

Looked this up in the manual for ya...the axle has the bearing held onto it by a press fit collar behind the bearing. The whole axle, bearing and collar are held into the tube by a snapring at the end of the axle tube which keeps it from walking out. so one of 2 things happened. and you can tell by asking if the bearing was still on the axle shaft. Either the snap ring rusted away and the whole bearing, press collar and axle are walking out....or...the press collar let loose and the axle is walking out and leaving the bearing and collar behind in the tube, the threaded end they are speaking of is probably the splines on the end of the axle shaft that go into the differential.
Hope I was able to help YOU this time

Good job OX ....pretty much textbook for what bh told me.....he was also confused by the threads on the end part....A circle clip ( as they call this one) is what holds the axle in alot of mechanics pull the axle like this and do brakes on the bench ....
A word of serious caution: We had a bad accident near here when a 4 passenger lifted CC lost a rear wheel and axle in this manner at a high rate of speed. At least one person was killed when the cart flipped and threw everyone out in the street.....So if you are gonna do brakes this way be sure..... No. Be darn sure the circle clip is seated properly
