Default 48v dpi problems

I purchased a 48v dpi charger 1 year ago today. I have noticed the last couple of charges the amp meter only goes to around 5amps then shutters. How do I tell if the charger is going bad or the batteries. Batteries are about 4 yrs old and are not getting the full charge. After it sits a few hrs it drops to 50.4 .

Does the charger shut off automatically or does it keep running?

No matter how low I drain the batteries, the charger will only go to around 5amps and charge. Yes it shuts off and maintains the charge at 52.3

My guess would be you have a bad charger. I can drive 100ft down to the mailbox and still the charger will start at 17 amps. At least your in warranty.

I'm also wondering about the meter. When the needle to to 5 amps does it stop abruptly like it hit something or gently stop? One other thing. Does it take a long time to charge your batteries or just about what would be normal.

Needle stops around 5-7 amps and then jumps around. As far as charging it doesnt seem like its slow. It has always went to around 16-17 amps then comes down

It definitely sounds like the charger(at the meter) is bad to me. Call DPI they might just send you the PCB and you won't have to do w/o your charger.

What does the voltage increase to when charger first plugged in, then when "bouncing"? To me, sounds like a battery problem.

It will only go to 5 -7 amps then bounce and charge at 5 -7 amps. When bought new it would go to 17 amps when plugged in. I have a digital meter it starts around 52.3 and will top out at about 57- 57.8 the maintains at 52.3

The battery pack might be failing the Pre-Qualification test, or not reaching the on-charge voltage needed to go into the 16-17A bulk charge phase that follows the 5-7A pre-qualification within the allotted 5 hours.

What brand batteries?
