Rear end swap
I am planning on swapping the rear end off a 1990 DS to a 1993 DS.
My plan is to jack up rear end and frame, disconnect motor cables, disconnect brake lines, release the entire rear end with leaf springs on both carts, then swap bolt the leafs back on. Obviously I will use extra hands to keep the motor from rolling and getting damaged. Any considerations before I get started are appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: Rear end swap
Use extra patience and penetrating spray on the forward leaf spring bolts. The ones on my 92 DS were a pain! I hear a lot of people just cut them out.
Does one of them have a problem, different gear ratio? |

Re: Rear end swap
Kind of a long story but, the '90 was recently fixed up (my avatar) including new leafs. Unfortunately it has some slight frame damage that I'm not 100% happy with. I recently also received a parts cart, the '93, but the transaxle has some old weld marks and it leaking. The frame is in great shape, so I'm transferring all the parts and converting to solid state. Nothing better to do.

Re: Rear end swap
Jack stands, 2 jacks if you got them, spray the leaf spring bolts today with penetrating and let it set a day or two. You may want a big hammer and punch,
3 when I worked on my 93 3 bolts were easy as pie the fourth not so much ended up getting it off but went to hardware store and replacing it, don’t know why but factory had a different bolt there than the other three. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Rear end swap
Update: got all four out and rear end sitting on jack stand. Luckily this parts cart was shed kept and no road gunk.
Now to strip the other one and swap this weekend. Aka bribe some friends with beer and pizza. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
