can't find rear axle drain plug
I know I must seem like I'm not that bright with all the questions I've been asking, but trust me, I'm usually not this brain dead. 1995 medalist, series motor and I can't for the life of me find the drain/fill plug. I was going to change the fluid today, but I obviously didn't do it. Help!!

Re: can't find rear axle drain plug
Here are two Dana axle manuals. Not sure about Medalist carts. Basically, you just drop the pan. If you search, you will find recommendations about what type of fluid/oil to use. Some recommend the use of an additive.

Re: can't find rear axle drain plug
The first diagram shows the drain/fill plug in the rear axle cover. The diagram I was looking at shows it in the cover also and on the passenger side of the cart, but unfortunately, it's not there. My plan was to remove the cover and drain all the old fluid and then refill with 80/90 gear oil. Here are a few pics of my rear this way people don't think I'm nuts. Maybe I'm missing something. I guess I can always take the cover off and buy a cover with a drain/fill plug.

Start at post #17. Manual calls for 30wt motor oil. 80-90 gear oil is the same viscosity. |

Re: can't find rear axle drain plug
Mine didn't have a plug, so I just dropped the pan.
I tried to upload 28081-G01.pdf, but it's too big. There used to be a link in the stickies. |

Re: can't find rear axle drain plug
No plug. Drop the pan as shown in the link.
Note that the axle is tilted forward so not level with the ground. Put cart on jack stands with front of cart higher to level the pan. Much easier to reinstall the pan without spilling. |

Re: can't find rear axle drain plug
No problem, that's what I'll do. 10 ounces of 30 weight non detergent, correct? I thought I read that the old carts used 80-90 wt gear oil and the newer carts were using the 30 wt motor oil.
