Default Digital volt meter?

When I installed my digital volt meter (2008 RXV) a few years back I was told it used so little power it could be wired directly to the batteries . Is that the way most people have them wired?
My batteries lasted only 2-3 yrs with the weakest battery being the one the meter is wired to. I'm thinking about a toggle switch install.

Yes wiring straight to the pack is the way I do it. Your drawing from the whole pack just not one battery.

if wired directly, Your drawing from the whole pack just not one battery......and a lot of people do it that way.....however, there are also a lot that wire it through the key switch so that its only on when the cart is on. That's how I have mine wired.

The self powered LED meter we sell uses 60ma which means you would need a bushel of them connected to draw 1 amp. Compare this to hitting the gas and seeing the motor draw 100-300 amps.
Most likely something else is killing the batteries like poor use or maintenance practice.

You have your meter wired to just one battery?

Scottyb, my neighbor gave me the meter. Not sure where it came from, Ebay maybe. I assumed all meters are equal but maybe not.
