1987 club car ds voltage regulator bad?
Trying to help my friends parents out. They have a 1987 club car that has been in the shop a few times. This year they have put a new S/G, battery, solenoid, voltage regulator. They are still having charging issues. I brought it to my house to look at it. All signs pointed to voltage regulator. Battery rest at 12.8v when running stated around 12.4v half to 3/4 throttle. I disconnected the yellow wire put a jumper in. Voltage went around 17v. I bought a new voltage regulator from ebay hooked it up, Same problem. I have since ran new wire to the battery neg and pos. Took the battery out of my cart and tried it. Still not changing. I have seen where some of the regulators are adjustable but the ones I have are not. At least as far as I can see. I checked the voltage at the regulator with the cart running. 12.4 wire from solenoid. 8.4 yellow from the starter generator and ground is good. Could the new regulator be bad? Is there a way to bench test it?

Grounding the yellow wire is the test for the VR. It's not uncommon for aftermarket ones to be bad right out of the box. Get a genuine OEM one and you should be all set. Contact david hicks at revolution golf cars in the site sponsor link and he will set you up with a good part instead of the cheap chinese junk on ebay.
