Default Convertor relay wireing

Like many my 12 volt convertor(4 wire) is always powered up regardless of run tow,key switch position. This cause’s a small amount of current draw on batteries when not being used.

I solved problem by installing a 48 volt relay. But how does one wire this relay?

What I did. Relay has 4 terminals, # 30,87,85,86.

48 volt battery positive wire to convertor from battery pack goes on terminal 30

48 volt battery power to convertor goes to terminal 87. ( your interrupting the wire that normally goes from battery to convertor when connecting to these terminals on relay.

Battery pack ground connects to terminal # 85 (this supplies ground switch needs to complete circuit)

Switched wire, or wire that supply’s 48 volt positive voltage to relay switched wire that turns coil on and off inside relay causing it to connect terminals 30 and 87” (switched input in my case with 2012 TXT comes from small post on solenoid where red and yellow wires are attached. This terminal only has 48 volt positive present when key is on.
Doing this allows convertor to power up anytime key is on.

Of course if you choose to turn on convertor via toggle switch. Just place toggle switch between 48 pack + and terminal 86 instead of solenoid terminal and toggle switch now becomes on/off switch for convertor.

Hope this takes some of the mystery out of how to wire a ( relay) to turn on and off convertors if convertor does not come with internal switched input (5 wire convertor
Also what terminals on relay control what.😊

Ps bought a 3 pack of 48 volt 40amp relays off amozon for them bucks if it matters.
