Re: Starter generator
Remove all the wires from the starer generator except for the green one.
Use a multimeter set to check continuity. Check each post for continuity to the case. If there is continuity to the case the starter is bad and will probably need to be replaced. If you're interested to find out exactly what went wrong you can disassemble it pretty easily and check the field coils and the armature. You can also check the brushes very easily by removing the rubber black caps on the end. Be sure to avoid the cheapo replacements if you do have to buy a new one buy a quality OEM Club Car starter. The chinese knock-offs are junk and sometimes are dead right out of the box. |

Re: Starter generator
Didn't know walmart sold them, but I wouldn't bank on it. Check out some of our site sponsors http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/site-sponsors.php
Revolution Golf Cars Cart Parts Plus Jasons Golf Cars DIYGolfCart All have great products and great customer service. Revolution sells Club Car original parts, but may have an aftermarket version as well. I get a lot of stuff from David and he's always helpful and always makes sure I get the right parts. |

Re: Starter generator
Did you do the continuity test? If the starter is shorted inside it can still spin, but it will draw about triple the current and will burn up the wiring no matter what you do.
If the wire was damaged before it's gonna keep smoking. That wire will need to be replaced, and probably will need to replace the solenoid as well. |
