Default yamaha g2 no spark

i have an 85 g2. i used it the other day and it ran fine, but the next day it wouldnt start. i checked to see if there was spark and seen a weak spark then none. i noticed if i mess with the gas pedal once in a while i'll get a few really weak sparks then none at all. could this be a bad coil or cdi?

I am having the same problem, but it is not consistant? The spark will come and go with no reason. I bypassed the switch on gas pedal and it ran great then it started doing it again? Not sure to move on to coil or ignition switch? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

have you checked for a good ground at coil, black wire goes under screw that holds coil down
