Default Input needed on what lift kit and wheel/tire combo to get

Hello everyone I have a 95 Yamaha g14, I am looking to lift it and put more aggressive tires/wheels on it.

I need input on

1 what brands are good

2 how high should I lift it (pros and cons would be nice)

3 should I get an adjustable lift kit?

4 what kind of tread should I get for offroading

I like to spend under $1000

Thanks in advanced!

Depends on what your going to do, and how much money you want to spend. I was looking for dependability and versatility. I went with Carlisle 489 tires. Light weight at 14 lbs ea. and agressive tread. noisey on the street and they vibrate, but very surefooted off road and I would assume the mud tires would have the same characteristics. The "All Trail" tires supposeavly don't clean out in mud. But are smoother and quieter on pavement.

As for lift, quality is important, and saving you from getting hurt is first and foremost. Hight, lower center gravity is important in any performance car, so the lower the better, but you need 6" to get 22/23" tires under with out rubbing issues. 6" is very high, so a learning curve is recomended as these cars (lifted) have a tendency to be high center gravity. I went with a Jakes 6" single A-arm.

Good luck with your G14!!

Cant put a spindle lift on a 14. and long travel is long travel like an off road car. Use the search feature here.

Basics are long travel is better ride and much better for rough offroad running. If you roll around the campground its not a big deal what you get just enough to fit size of tires you want. Most long travel are dual arm, which works better and ones that come with their own shocks are better yet its nearly a quad front.

Far as tires get ATV rated tires they are much tougher. You want an aggressive tread for off road so you don't spin, but the mud tires are not nice on hardpack/roads so depends on what you will use the cart on. Some put knobs down the center to help on-road smooth out. Heavy tires will slow you down a little.

I'd say lift enough to fit tires you want to run, it just makes the cart unstable. Make sure you get offset wheels that helps, most of them are. Some better lifts are wider in front, you can put spacers on the rear with high lifts. Again it depends on what you do I run trails in woods a lot so I rail corners don't want it lifted high, I run a big knobby type tire it works well on most surfaces (trail pro). But I lifted this cart a long time ago, I welded it up could not buy a lift then. Another issue I had is I ride over a lot of yards and do yard work with the cart, so I did not want mega mudder tires that would tear up a yard. This tire has worked great on trails and in yards. It will plug in mud, but stock power can't spin them to clean them out and stock power is not much good in the mud anyway. Have some swamps around but I don't get into mud much anyway. They float over sand I have a lot of that here. http://www.carlisletirestore.com/trlpro_atv.htm Most people get 10 wheels now, but just explaining how this tread works for me. Some lifts require a certain size wheel.

I have Duro Desert 22/11/10 on my G9. http://www.motorcycletire.com/mercha...duro-atv-tires

I'm really happy with them -- great x-country through sage brush, over shale, through wet grass, up hills, on the road, wherever. I'm so pleased with them I'm considering getting another pair for my next project buggy.

Check my pics at http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/members/troubadour/ in the ALBUMS section.
I have a 4" "econo" lift with offset steel wheels. If I remember correctly the tires/wheels/lift kit combo came to $475 - $500. I use the cart for working around the ranch as well as pleasure riding so I'm keeping it simple and plain.

I contacted DIY Golf Cart. Great to deal with. Call them and explain what you have and what you are looking for. I got 6" lift, wheels (steel) and tires under $700.
