Drive Clutch advice needed
First post, please bear with me. I have a 2004 txt stock. The motor must rev high for several seconds before the drive clutch will engage. When it does engage it grabs and spins the tires. Does this thing need a new clutch? Can it be repaired? Is an OEM replacement my best option? Thanks for your help.

Re: Drive Clutch advice needed
Have you checked the belt? Last year, I thought the same thing on my '02 Workhorse. My belt was almost 1/4" narrower (well worn) than the new one I bought.

Re: Drive Clutch advice needed
Is it possible to change the spring? Or is it easier to replace the clutch?

Re: Drive Clutch advice needed
If you want ,,,, you could pull the spring out and cut like 1/2 a coil off it. If it's wrong-too much you would want a fresh one to replace it with though. Is it a stock clutch? If it's a comet clutch you can get springs easy on line ...

Re: Drive Clutch advice needed
Clean ur weights inside ur clutch those are what allow it to shift and if there dirty they won't shift until enough rpms pushes them into gear which is exactly whats ur does . Easy fix

Re: Drive Clutch advice needed
I have to agree! Tear it apart and clean it out ,, check for excessive wear,, and go from there.

Re: Drive Clutch advice needed
Thanks for the replies. It is the stock clutch. Can it be taken apart in place or do I need to pull it off of the engine? Any tricks to taking them apart?

Re: Drive Clutch advice needed
No need to pull it off, just remove the center bolt and the outer "smaller bolts" the spring isn't vary strong, it shouldn't be bad
