1983 EZGO will not not go.....
So, here it is folks. My first attempt at fixing my golf cart. Let me start by saying that am not mechanically adept at fixing small engines. But I listen well and am knowledgeable enough to figure stuff out with a little help. So...\
I bought my first golf cart last year from a buddy. It had just had the clutch replaced. It ran like a champ for about 3 months. No problems at all. Then one day it just started losing power. ran another few hours and on the ride home it just quit. It turns over fine, but the EZGO will not GO. I did a little research and when I take the line off between the pump and the carb, NO gas comes out when I turn it over. NONE!!!!!. I have no idea where to start. Somebody please help. I live a block from the first tee and had a blast with it last year. I want to get it going again. What should I look at? Thanks in advance folks. I appreciate any insight. |

Thanks for the response, I pulled the pump off and it looks new inside and out. No debris or anything plugging anything up inside.

Re: 1983 EZGO will not not go.....
Well it only takes a pinprick in the diaphragm to stop it working but let's continue. First of all jack up the rear end or remove the drive belt.
The pump is not self priming so if you ever ran out of gas you have to push fuel through. In addition it is sometimes possible that the pickup pipe in the tank falls off. So remove the line to the carburetor and then the fuel cap. Look inside to establish that the pickup pipe is immersed in fuel. Now wrap a shop rag around the fuel orifice to create a seal, pucker up and blow into the tank until gas comes out of the fuel line. (You did of course point the fuel line into a catch jar didn't you?). Now with the catch jar still there crank the engine. You need to see a big healthy ejaculate of gasoline. A trickle or a dribble won't do at all. If we are looking good connect the fuel line to the carburetor and try again. If we are now running crack a beer and bask in the reflected glory of your omnipotence. If you are still not running get a can of WD40 and with a wife / girlfriend / buddy / someone else's wife (well you get the idea) cranking the engine spray the rear crankshaft oil seal generously. If the engine note changes or if it tries to start or if it starts you have a sad seal and you need to change both of them. Let us know what you discover and we can make this right. Changing the seals is cheap, maybe $8 albeit rather tedious. On the bright side many here have done it and will help (if indeed that is what it is). However if we are going down that road we should also check the compression ratio, can you beg borrow or steal a tester? Dave |
