Default Re: 1988 Ez-go 2cycle starting issues

My own experience led me to the solenoid which I changed out and the problem went away forever. However before you go down that route I can tell you that Marathons suffer from grounding issues and I would first check the main ground point which you will find if you follow the battery negative to the chassis. Now remove the nut and cables and clean the chassis to bare metal, then clean the cable lugs and reassemble. There should be three cables, one to the battery negative, one to the direction switch and one to the engine block. If this one is damaged, corroded or missing you will experience the problems you are seeing. If this does not cure the problem then jack up the rear end and short out the two LARGE terminals. Does the engine start without hesitation? If so the starter is good. Now short out the two small terminals, does the engine start without hesitation? If so we have ruled out the solenoid and need to look further back.
Let us know.

Well finally got everything in place and she is running like a dream, no stalls whatsoever. I ended up putting both a new forward/reverse switch and pedal micro switch on it. While waiting for the parts I also went ahead and took the carb apart and cleaned it and ran seafoam through the tank. The carb was actually pretty clean and it stilled stalled after the cleaning. But hey atleast I know the carb is good
I replaced both switches when I got them and it now runs smooth and starts every time. Not sure which switch did the trick, since I replaced both while I was working on it, just know it was one of them. Thanks for the help and hope it helps someone else having this issue.
