I was thinking that they had to be replaced with new one's. Like on a car engine there compressed in and no sealant needed. I'm not sure maybe will both get a more experienced answer. I've got to replace mine as well but it's not leaking, It's funny tough it is everywhere else and has a nasty grinding to it. I'm thinking the vent might be stopped up if I can find it. Have you checked your to see. It might be building up pressure. Mine made a hissing sound when I cracked open the drain.Witch is what probably cause all my issue's. Reinstalled old motor still has noise just a little quieter "different" . So I'm like you I'm having to replace them along with all bearing's and o-rings. Now, I just got to decide on what gear to run. Can't put back together stock...LOL 48v conversion almost gave me enough torque to do a wheelie by myself so I need just a little more umph to raise the tire's. I'm thinking of going with a speed gear cause I have the torque just need it to react quicker. If I went with torque alone with a torque motor it wouldn't run but 12mph and that's not going to work.LOL! Sorry for the long post. Maybe it will get some attention for some of ezgo wizard's on here. They just amaze me and jump start my own mind and That's scary. Good luck! Can't stand oil leaks or noisy parts

Usually soft-plugs that are going into a housing are sealed with RTV if they are containing coolant/etc.under high-temp/moderate-pressure to prevent corrosion. If O-Rings are used,no sealer needed. That is probably the cause of the leak.Try installing them dry, then put a light film of RTV on the outside seam where the case and soft-plug meet. Are they the correct plug or a parts-store replacement? The o.d and depth are critical in a lot of cases, make sure they are the same as the original if they are new.Hope this helps

My freeze plugs are new oem not napa knockoffs!everyone talks about a vent that might block but never sayes where its at???? anybody?????????sledgehammer800,dont go to steep on your gearing! going from stock wheel/tires to like 23-12-12 give about 26% increase in speed. my dcs 36v went from 16mph to 21-22mph with no real torque difference!!!!!

I'm not sure where your vent is located, but it will be at a high point(at least 3/4 way up,if not on top)Look closely at a high-mounted fill/sight-plug,it may double as a breather with a small hole in one side.I never said anything bad reguarding aftermarket soft-plugs,I wasn't sure from your post if you bought replacement OE parts or a parts-store plug since you never stated it,because aftermarket has a huge variety of options in sizing(sae & metric, shallow & deep).Either way put it in dry if the hole has an o-ring,and you can smear a little sealer on the outside to insure a good seal(especially if you run offroad).Hope this helps.
