Re: Is a Portable Windshield "Street Legal"
I'm working on an easy off/on windshield myself. Not sure where you would get the important part, but a home improvement or window store could help.
A friend gave me his old windows from his house to use on my covered patio. Along with the windows he gave me a bunch of plexiglass pieces that went over the windows in the winter. They were held on with removeable plastic pieces that had a long magnet on the back. That's where the home improvement store comes in. I added a cross piece to the bottom of my front windshield frame. In the picture you will see two, the bottom one is for the windshield, the top one is to help mount a front dash basket. I'm attaching L shaped brackets under the bottom brace, and on top of the frame. The windshield will have the magnetic strips on all four sides. Put the bottom of the windshield and magnetic strip behind the L brackets. Slightly bend the windshield and insert the top of the windshield and strip under the L brackets on top. The sides should stick to the upright frame with no problem. The L brackets keep the windshield from sliding down or popping out on top. The first picture shows the frame. the second shows the L bracket that goes on top and sitting on the plastic strip that would hold the windshield. the third picture shows the bottom L bracket being held in place, to show how it would look before the windshield and strip were inserted. As I said I am in the process of doing this now, so it is not field tested. |

Re: Is a Portable Windshield "Street Legal"
reinman88...thanks for the reply and pictures. he's definitely wanting something to can be donn/doffed quickly. he got a good deal on the cart but it didn't have a road kit nor a back seat. it's an 85 with the wrong top so parts are impossible to find. we are having to fab up just about everything. he's thinking about lexan and bolts/wingnuts for now just to pass the inspection.
