Wanting To Add Stereo To Precedent
Ive decided I want to add a stereo to my club car precedent and just wanted to see some pics of some stereo setups on precedent carts because I havent decided if i want to add one in the dash or hanging from top or even have some speakers on either side of the forward/ reverse switch. Ive also seen some carts with a 10" sub so that is still a possibility I just dont know where I would put it. Also, is there a smaller battery I can use for just the stereo that i could hide possibly in the dash or something so I dont take away any juice from the cart?

Re: Wanting To Add Stereo To Precedent
You have lights - how are you powering them? If you add a battery, I would suggest wiring them to it as well. I suspect, since you apparently don't have a voltage reducer that you could use for both, that you are powering lights with one of your cart batteries. That's not good on the batteries and the lights typically go dim and out way too soon.
This is where I put my stereo using a generic under dash mount: This is where I mounted my speakers using Polk shallow mount marine speakers. I only have the pair but they sound really good. I did have to take a dremmel to the battery bay to make a little bit of room for the speaker magnets as you can see here. Hasn't been a problem. I use a full size marine 12v battery to power my lights and stereo. They last way longer on a run than the cart does. I keep the quick connect for my charger on the battery all the time and just click it in when I charge the cart. |

Re: Wanting To Add Stereo To Precedent
That a nice setup! Yes I am running my lights off the carts battery and I was planning on swopping it over to the battery I will get for the stereo. I did forget to mention one thing. I want to try to avoid putting anything on the rear of the cart because I occasionally take the cart to the golf course and I need somewhere for my golf bag.

Re: Wanting To Add Stereo To Precedent
There are some that use scooter batteries and are able to fit them in the dash somewhere. No idea of the longevity of them but they seem to be happy with them. Since I don't have a dash kit, I had no way to hide one of those batteries and since the bagwell under my rear seat is dead space, it was a good place to locate the battery. And I already had my lights and stereo wired to the 12v source behind the dash so it was convenient to only have to wire the new battery from the bagwell through the little access panel to the battery bay wiring and not have to go back under the floor from the dash again.
Just be careful with the speakers - get as shallow as you can. There were doubters here when I wanted to put mine in the kick panel as to whether or not there was room for that on an electric cart. I measured carefully and was willing to do some minor cutting. I was also worried that shallow mount speakers might not have as much punch but my neighbors are always shaking their heads at how good they sound. My son wants a sub and I was thinking of getting a small powered tube and fitting it just above the rear battery. If you aren't able to go behind the seat, you'll have to get creative on a sub. Maybe some sort of mount between your rear roof supports or something. |

Re: Wanting To Add Stereo To Precedent
I used a 48v to 12v reducer with a switch on the + side of the 48v input, pyle driver marine mp3 amp that fit behind the switch panel (tight fit) and a pair of pyle driver 3 way enclosed speakers in the left and right storage tray. Uses an mp3 or ipod type device for a head unit. I mounted the reducer power switch, 3.5mm input plug and volume control in the key switch panel.
Total cost was about $100 for all three components (all new) from ebay. |

Re: Wanting To Add Stereo To Precedent
I looked around at all the options available for stereo mounting and decided to go with the dash manufactured by the golf cart division of Virginia Plastics. For the Precedent, I don't believe there is a better looking dash out there. It's fits perfectly and because you are almost making a speaker enclosure with it and the fact the speakers face you, the sound is great. Install was a snap, highly recommend this dash.

Re: Wanting To Add Stereo To Precedent
Yep I cut the center storage tray and inside there is another tray below on the 04 Precedent..On some newer Precedents there is no other tray below the top tray and I'm not sure what year that starts but the battery is about the size of a lawn tractor battery its actually a Handicap scooter battery and it fits perfect and doesn't move at all as I added weatherstripping around the edges..

Re: Wanting To Add Stereo To Precedent
I have polk speakers in a custom headliner with an Ipad flip down to control the volume/input. I have a 450 watt marine mtx amp in the sweater basket that runs them and a 150 watt self-amplified bass tube inside the body above the motor. Sounds great. The same amp will run the polk speakers on my people trailer. No need for a stereo deck as you can run everything through rca jacks from my iphone or ipad. 101 amp hour marine deep cycle battery in the back to run headlights, leds, horn, phone charger, dome lights, amps.
