Default Wide Open Speed

Hello all. I am a newbie with forums, so I hope I'm doing this right. Anyway I have a 1997 electric club car. When the pedal is depressed, it runs wide open. I checked the pot with the meter it appears to be within the ohm readings as stated on posts in this forum. If I unplug the 3 conductor plug from the pot, it still runs wide open. anyone with suggestions?
Thanks

What? It runs wide open without the throttle input lead connected?

I'm gonna guess it's been hot wired/bypassed someplace.
Go thought the stickies and grab the wiring diagram for your cart and see if you can find what's been modified.

yep thats right. There is a harness w 3wires in it that comes from the pot.yellow, purple, and white (Ithink). They are in a triangular shaped connector. I disconnected this connector an it runs wo. I don't have a schematic, so I'll try to see if one can be found. Thanks so much!

On the speed controller there are 3 plug in terminals marked 1 2 3. unplug 2 and 3, leave 1 in, it is red and powers up the controller. If the cart still goes then the controller is likely faulty. If it does not go then the problem is between the pot and the controller

it is 48 v . With the cart jacked up and running with the 3 conductir unplugged, if I disconnect the red wire from the controller it quits. I will try what you reccomended in your reply. Thanks so much!

OK I left #1 (red) connected and unplugged #2 and #3. as soon as the microswitch clicks on the pedal, the cart still takes off. So I asumme that it must be a bad controller. Would you all agree. What would I expect to pay for a replacement it is a curtis pmc 1204-410.
