1989 G1 Rear axle bearing replacement

Hi all,

I am the caretaker of a 1989 Yamaha G1 2 stroke golf cart for an older lady that is not well off and she uses it for the feeding and care of her horses and boarding horses (oh did I mention she also has serious mobility issues). My daughters take riding lessons with her and while the girls are riding, I am fixing things around the farm.... of which the golf cart is but one. I got it running great last year with replacement crank seals and butterfly valves. The cart has been problem free until now. So, got a call yesterday stating the golf cart runs fine but won't move. Get over there and the whole wheel is about 3-4 inches out from the side of the cart. Come to find out the rear wheel/axle bearing had failed allowing the axle shaft to move out of the transmission, thus no movement. It appears no damage other than the failed bearing. Got a new bearing but for the life of me can't find any how to's on the internet on procedures for removing the old and replacing with the new... Any pointers?

Read some of the other threads on here, and does not appear to have welded collars. Not sure if bearing is pressed from the transmission end on or if the hub end is a press interference fit that needs heat on hub and cold on shaft to separate... Looking closely at the shaft, it appears to have a shoulder on the axle on the transmission side of the bearing which would prohibit pressing off in that direction. Hopefully the shaft is not welded to the hub. If it is, what are my options? Seems silly to have to get a whole new axle shaft assembly (including bearing) for a simple bearing replacement...
