Default Need help figuring out what this knob does. Old resistor cart.

Hi all,

84' ezgo resistor cart.

My first post. Love the discussions. Can someone please tell me what this knob does? (Silver pull knob) The owner says it's for high speed. I pull it and it clicks the solenoid but I don't see any speed increase.

See how it jumpers 2 connections on the motor on from the solenoid... What's the purpose? Looks like the wires are newer so a modification of some sort...

Thx. Ryan.

It is a field winding shunt. (Shorts S1 to S2)

When traveling at max speed with the solenoid de-energized, you ought to gain a couple MPH when you energize the solenoid.

Thank you!

Can I throw a 12 volt battery in that line so I have a booster switch operated by the knob?

If you put a 12V battery in series with the solenoid contacts, it would have the opposite effect of what you want. (The battery would make the field strength stronger, which will produce more torque and less speed)

I believe some of the guys have rigged up ways to connect another battery or two to resistor drive carts, but it is more complex than just a SPST solenoid.

I don't have any info on how it is done.

Best bet would be start a new thread in this forum, or maybe the Extreme DC forum. Ask how to do it in the title.

This thread explains the go fast button. From my understanding you must only use it while at max throttle. If you activate the switch under a high torque situations such as starting off, it will detonate the motor.

Yes, when I pull that handle when at full throttle I get whip lash from the boost of speed. Amazing...
