Help! My Yama G16A starts but doesn't charge?
I recentely rebuilt the starter generator on my G16A and it starts great every time and then it suddenly goes dead? Sometimes it will do it while it is just idling. It has a new battery and all the connections look tight. I have it at a Storage Park and the managers get caught a long ways from the office with a machine that won't start. Not good! Any suggestions?

Re: Help! My Yama G16A starts but doesn't charge?
Once again I was wrong! The charger is charging and the reason for the e gone to die for no apparent reason is still a mystery. Perhaps it is a short in the key switch as it works a little weirdly and seems stiff? Not sure. Also not sure why I got no responses to my yelp for help? Aree there no Yamaha people out there?
I need your experience to get this one up and running and reliable. I also see that another 2004 Yamaha JUO G16 A has a front end that looks very weird? It has the front wheels looking like it was in a wreck? I just bought this one and it has a full alum body on it for winter use. The camber appears to be set wrong for the weight of the body? Can anyone teach me how to adjust the camber on the rack and pinion ft end? It now looks like this / \. And I'm sure should be much less noticible even though it is designed to give a soft ride with independent suspension. |

Have you checked for spark when it dies? Also make sure the bowl is clean as trash can stop up the needle hole and then float back out. Please give a little more info of when it dies. These guys in here are great and can give you answer quick with a few simple tests. Throw you a screw driver to test for spark and a 10&12 mm wrench in your cart for further diag. Check spark first then fuel. Do u have a fuel filter on it?

Re: Help! My Yama G16A starts but doesn't charge?
Last spring my G16 would run fine for awhile and then die. If you just bought the cart it may have set awhile. The gas will go bad and gel up in the carb as Flippz said. I had to take mine apart 3 times before I got it all out. The last time I took the needle out and it had a chunk under it. Ran fine after that and I put storage treatment in it this winter and hopefully wont have to do it again this spring.

Re: Help! My Yama G16A starts but doesn't charge?
My problem is different. My engine ideas and then when I try and restart it, it won't even turn over or do anything at all. It acts like the battery is dead, but it isn't. This is why it is soooo confusing to us all. We wonder if it is the key switch or some weird thing? The wires are all good, have good ends, and are all tight. Battery is new. It happens whe. I am not there so I get it all second hand, which makes it more difficult to diagnose.

Lavorn, lets do this start a new thread about your other problems and we will work on dying here.
When you say it is dead is it trying to start, is the starter spinning? You said something about idling these carts don't idle. |

Re: Help! My Yama G16A starts but doesn't charge?
Right! Think I'll squeeze the springs up and put a 1" shim below them and see if it helps. If it does then I will know for sure I have bad springs. At $150 each I'm not excited about buying new and finding out I have a different problem. Thanks for the input. I am busy working on an EZ Go right now as I have a hurry up time schedule to get it shipped to Hawaii so I can meet it in Jan when it arrives!

Re: Help! My Yama G16A starts but doesn't charge?
Yamaha should have straight front tires when it has people on it, yes its the shocks/springs usually.
I've had the same issue with my G9 it was the battery clamps. They looked really clean but it would go dead. I would twist the clamp with channellocks and clamp would spark and work for a while. I finally had to file the inside of the clamps and outside of the battery posts to get it to work. Battery cleaner wire brush thing would not clean them, they looked clean but gray. After filing they were shiny looking. This can also happen at other end of battery cables on the gen and ground, and the small wires that run the big solenoid can have bad connections. Check all connections and note there are ground cables for everything not frame ground. |
