Once you put in the new points come the PIA part. Resetting the gap. Adjust the points wide open with the single slot screw (it's a eccentric head) Reinstall the flywheel, it should slip right in. and retighten the Bolt and lock tab. Then roll the flywheel so that you can see the points thru the window opening. (Take note of where the lobe is inside the flywheel and make sure you use the window closes so the points will be riding on the lobe when you adjust them) Now adjust the points down till a .015" feeler gage will just slide into them. (013" feeler if using older points) I had to use a mirror to see what I was doing. once you get them set just right. Tighten the one phillip screw that locks them down. I'm reposting the manual instructions That someone else had posted on here for help. It also covers how to set the timing if needed.

When the flywheel is off is a good time to check the brushes on the starter/gen. Mine are wore down to almost touching the wire against the bottom of the slot in the holder, also it's a good time to Clean the Armature.

My understanding from my local dealer is the points for the ezgo's are like finding hens teeth. And the only ones he knows are not a direct fit and have to be modded. I did some digging and came up with this set from NAPA. I am not sure if these are the same. BUT they look like they might be. So if someone gets stuck, might be worth a try and see. "BUY AND TRY AT OWN RISK"If anyone does. Please report back on this thread.

keddano - first thanks for all the info - you answered about 90% of all my questions. thanks for that.
now to the last 10%
I think im have a timing issue on my 1978 - does anyone know how to time one of these thing. I have "fiddled" with the timing but cant seem to get it right on. it runs ok at low RPM but misses at high RPM and has a hard time starting.
thanks

Never messed with ezgo points, but the picture above looks very similar to 69-76 honda cb750 points. They are fairly easy to get.
Take the old ones down to the stealership and match them up.
There is a left and right set. Mirror opposites.

Mudmaniac, Glad it helped. I've been active on a Jet ski forum where we do a lot of mods. And have found if you can fully cover a subject it helps for years down the road. There's not a lot on the old marathons posted. So as I run across issues,I'll document them. Mainly because my old brain doesn't remember everything and it's easier to go back to my research later... lol

My1423, I found a lot of points that were mirror image. Glad to hear the older Hondas had twin sets. Would be good for another resourse.
