Oh, also, it does not point down as bad as during the "stripped down" photo. I replace one of the front leaf springs, and the whole cart sits level now. |

Re: Marathon to Jeep Conversion
This weekend, I welded in a new floor and then created a glovebox. I decided it would be much easier to do before starting to weld on the new cowl.
I've never had this car running, so I made up my new #4 AWG cables and got my batteries charged. Discovered that one of my micro switches was not actuating. I was able to pull a MacGyver and fixed it with a spring out of a cheap pen. (The old spring was too weak) Maiden voyage of the cart was a chilly 30 degrees. Next weekend I plan to start on the cowl, hood and front fenders. Then I'll just have the remaining body panels and seats to complete. (Oh, I guess I'll install brakes too) |

Re: Marathon to Jeep Conversion
Saturday's progress:
Completed bending and welding cowl over dash board. To get the 6" diameter bend I wanted, I wrapped the 4" support column in my garage with cardboard. Then I marked the 15 degree angle on my sheet steel. After that, I simply bent the 22 gauge steel around the post with hand pressure. Next, I wanted to make a trial fender. I used a scrap of sheet metal to bend an edge and fabricate the fender radius. It turned out pretty well, so I'll fab the full fenders tomorrow. |

It is a lot of "on the job" learning. I got a flux core wire welder for Christmas. This is my first time really working with sheet steel. Arc welding was self taught a couple years ago when my Wrangler failed inspection. I bought a welder on Craiglist and did a lot of frame repair. |

Re: Marathon to Jeep Conversion
Got my fenders fabricated and installed today. I made the edge round, bending the steel over 1.5" black pipe. Quite a few bends and welds later, I have the fenders.
