Hot cable
I have a 1984 ezgo 36 volt. The issue is the cable goes to the motor is getting hot enough where you can't touch it. I was told it is the resistor coil or the motor causes this. I was wondering how to check these two items. Plus I'm at a campground that has Gravel roads and windexing maybe the motor might need clean out. Thanks for any help

Re: Hot cable
a loose nut on cable motor will cause heat .. use 2 wrenches to tighten it
one on the motor stud to keep it from moving , the other does the tightening check your resistor coils , make sure they are tight and well spaced motor heat will not travel up a cable |

Re: Hot cable
None of the cables should get hot. Warm maybe but not too hot to hold on to.

Re: Hot cable
The age of the actual cable can also contribute. Older cables can build up internal corrosion within the strands, leading to higher resistance/heat.

Re: Hot cable
yep, hot cable? replace it. avoid the auto parts store cables like these. the ends compress and cant stay reliably tight too long, especially in a acid-rich environment like golf carts. they "suck-up" corrosion like a sponge. also avoid any cart service outfit that uses them, they are cutting costs at the expense of your reliability, not the sign of a place with pride in their work.. i see this crap all the time with the " battery guy" replacement stuff.

Re: Hot cable
My cart bought used at eight years old had a few cables that got hot. Bought Scottb's 2 GA replacement battery cable set. Barely gets warm now.
Quality stuff. |

Re: Hot cable
I too will vouch for ScottyB's cables. I put them on and there is no more of that "Hey...why do I smell plastic burning?" Of course, I also tossed out my TXT F\R 1894 technology switch and installed a SuperDuty contactor. Best thing ever. EVER!! Yeah....honest. Do I have a face that would lie?
