72V Ezgo HELP

2017 EZGO EXPRESS ELITE

Buddy ran out of battery and towed cart 1.5 miles without flipping tow switch. Says it smelled like burnt hot dogs when he got it home. So Id imagine the controller is fried! Controller blinks indicating 1:1 code for bad controller. He will be taking it to ezgo dealer to get checked out. I know they are going to rape him price wise so I was wondering what would you do? I personally would upgrade to another controller since I've heard they cant be modified/programmed to increase speed ect...so if he's going to have to buy new controller and/or motor what would ypu upgrade it to?
