Re: Anyone up for a BBQ
I ended up doing mine twice too - I think I was a little too proud of the fact that I was actually doing it (as well as giggling like an idiot and drinking beer throughout most of the procedure) that I didn't cook it long enough the first time. The second time around I did the smart thing and not only cooked it over a high fire for about 1/2 hr but then nestled it down in the hot coals for close to an hour, after awhile it started "jetting" again several times (never as powerfully ar for as long as the initial burn, but significant nonetheless) ... I didn't get a lot of carbon out after either burn but there was a definite change in performance after burn #2.

Re: Anyone up for a BBQ
i think i may end up cooking mine again tomarrow morning. maybe theres more to cook in there...def gonna hang around and watch for a nice "jet"
does anyone know the weight of a fairly clean muffler? I've been looking at different shipping things to try to get a weight but i'm not having much luck. I want to know so i can weigh mine before and after the cook. |

Re: Anyone up for a BBQ
heres the second burn, didn't really feel like building a fire this time...
think this one turned out better, there was a lot more smoke...really white at first which was wierd than turned to that thick nasty black smoke i was looking for. |

Re: Anyone up for a BBQ
the only drawback to doing it that way (IMHO) would be that you're not really getting the entire can up to burnoff temp - I forgot to mention that when I did mine, I moved it around in the fire/coals and it would almost always start to resmoke/jet when I did it (after a few minutes to warm up) - exhaust gases pretty much contact the entire inside of the muffler, so I'm sure the deposits are scattered throughout the entire assembly ...
