Default just finished my rebuild

well i got my 89 marathon going today after a top end rebuild. i dont have an air filter yet so i just wanted to see if it was gonna run. i had to block the intake some or use the choke to be able to drive. will this problem get better when i have the air filter hooked up?

it *may* help a bit, although mine actually tends to run better without the air cleaner (even with a brand new element) - you may want to take the time to pull the carb and clean out all the jets, needle valve, etc really thoroughly, that's an easy project and generally will clear up problems requiring choke to run

thanks and with the carb upside down, and the bowl off, what measurement should i get from the bowl gasket up to the float. if someone has a baseline measurement then i would have an idea if there is enough fuel in the bowl. thanks guys

well i am waiting on my air cleaner to come in so i took a shop towel and put where the filter should be and it ran good. 17mph on flat ground and 12 going up a decent hill. now time to figure out how to check rearend fluid.
