Accessory Wiring Terminations on Battery Connections Melting
I recently picked up a 2002 freedom SE. I love the thing! After having it for a few days and depleting half of the charge on batteries, i decided to charge it up. I was disappointed when after 2 hours of being plugged in, it wasn't charging at all. I searched this site and got lots of helpful info on charging and basic battery maintenance. THANK YOU ALL! After filling up the batterys with water and cleaning the connections to the battery, All is well with the charging system.
One issue remains, I will be replacing the accessory and charging terminations to the batteries due to corrosion and heat damage. Does heat damage to accessory leads suggest to many amps being drawn by the lights, horn and turn signals? Could it suggest that those accessories are not designed for 36volt systems? I have seen products that suggest they convert the 36V system to 12V for safety and increased battery life. Would the on board accessories benefit from such a voltage conversion? I imagine a cigarette lighter, fan or car stereo would need to be 12 volts, but i don't have those items, just the lights, signals and horn. ( I may add a stereo though) In the end, my goal is make sure I'm not damaging the cart with accessories that are the wrong voltage. Any help is appreciated. |
