Re: front brake w/ stock back brake???
I dunno what the beef is with the Jakes Brakes. I've been pounding the snot out of 'em for 5 years now here in SW Pa. and they stop my 1K-lb cart just fine on some pretty steep downhills (and uphills). I just have the Jakes front disc along with the factory rear drums and all is good. This year I removed the rear drums to check the pads and "knocked" the dust out of the drums. Most of the squeak went away with that maintenance item done.
I'm a proponent of a dual brake system. On for the front and another for the back. A large chunk of something (log or rock) can take out a hydraulic line or a rear cable in a second, but it's highly unlikely that something will happen to both at the same time. And when your coming down a hill either the front brakes, or the back brakes are way better than no brakes. Dave |
