Default Yamaha G16 driven clutch question

I pulled my G16 driven clutch and will replace the sliding sheave, spring, ramp shoes and belt. Should I also replace the fixed sheave as well or will it make a difference at all? My clutch has the typical growl and the ramp shoes and sliding sheave are well worn but I don't want to throw money at it that isn't needed. Also, my cart has a basic 4" lift kit and 18" knobby tires. Is the Jakes power clutch kit the way to go for more low end torque or is a stock spring in the correct holes (C4?) work just as good? Thanks for any info.

Educate your self, and read this site! The growling may be a bearing in the tranny. Then my opinion, "call Plowmans carts", and talk to him about clutch parts. He has the best set up going!!

If the fixed sheave doesnt have a big groove worn into it, and not bent during removal, it can be reused. Pretty sure the stock holes were always "B3" on G16. I like the UMAX yamaha spring best, too heavy a spring just eats clutch parts too fast.

I assume the UMAX Yamaha spring works with the stock spring seat/ramp shoes/fixed sheave, etc.? Is this a Yamaha OEM part? I'm glad to know. Honestly I was very concerned of shoving an aftermarket spring in my cart without getting some feedback from someone who had experience with them. Also, if I go with the UMAX spring and buy a sliding sheave since mine is worn out, are the $60 replacement sliding sheaves worth buying or should I only use OEM Yamaha parts? I can't afford to spend a fortune but I want quality parts that will last as well. Thanks for your feedback.

Is the cartspartplus (CPP) power package which uses their own spring and a machined Yamaha sliding sheave a good setup? He says their spring is not near as stiff as some aftermarket so I shouldn't see increased clutch wear as a result of a spring that is too stiff. Or, should I just buy a stock (unmachined) Yamaha sheave and a stock UMAX spring?

New sheaves, ramp shoes and the u-max spring will give you good performance with parts that were engineered by Yamaha to work. If you want to do more to modify your stock cart, Plowmans has several ways to go.

I really appreciate your response. I believe I'll buy this UMAX spring, a new fixed sheave from Yamaha as well as new ramp shoes. Are the Yamaha belts the way to go over aftermarket as well? For me it's hard to tell if I really need a new belt much like the fixed sheave. They both work but it feels like I should replace them if I'm going to the trouble/expense of changing all of these other driven clutch parts. Thanks for your input.

The best belt option IMO is a kevlar HD belt from erlandson or plowman. That is an upgrade aftermarket belt. For "stock style", OEM is best for sure. I was wearing out stock belts (yes, my clutches are good, a common cause of belt wear) in about a year. I expect top performance from my belt & clutches, as soon as a stock belt starts slacking in the performance area, i would replace it. Now that i have used a HD belt, i would never consider going back to a stock belt (oem belt or otherwise). The cheap aftermarket belts are thin and "chincey".
