Default Now 2002 Club Car project

Ok to make a long story short I now have a 2002 Club Car series cart. I have replaced the motor with a D and D high speed motor, new everything except controller (stock 225 amp) and batteries but batts came from a good running cart. Cart was a complete rebuild started with frame and body. My problem is once I got everything together I took it on a test ride and it seems pretty slow. Is the controller a good culprit? What is the best to use?

What hp is the D&D motor? The 225 amp controller may not have the capacity to flow the needed amps for the D&D to perform properly.

Nice job, quite a makeover you have going on.

Others know much more than I do, but I am thinking you need more controller, and some bigger battery cables.

I replaced my stock 3hp motor with a 12hp and when I did it was highly suggested that I replace the stock 225amp controller with a 500amp controller, HD solenoid and 2ga cables to allow the amps to get to that larger motor. It's like a fuel pump sized for a 4 cylinder gas engine with a 1 barrel carb trying to run a big block V8.

Yep, thats what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure. I just put a larger motor in my Precedent, and added the 2 gauge cables, the 500 Amp controller, and a 400 Amp solenoid.

I have up graded the cables to 4ga. However I wonder after today if I don't have more than one issue. I drove it a little to see if it would clear up with negative results. It pretty much stopped moving in reverse but still goes slow in forward. I noticed the resistor on the solenoid was extremely hot and then stayed hot until I took the cables off the battery pack. From what I read on this forum seems bad batteries could cause this also. So I wonder if the controller and batteries are bad

Now I'm really lost. Today I got on the cart and it ran great, had great speed worked like a champ. However the resistor is still crazy hot. Even when the key is off there is current going through the resistor on the solenoid.
