Default Help! Wrecked G16 Rear End

So my G11 was running fine but started making this very loud grinding and howling noise from the secondary clutch/transfer case. I removed the secondary which looked bad but also noticed the output shaft was leaking and not real smooth when I turned the shaft by hand in neutral. After opening the case it looks like many of the gears are damaged. Anyone know best “cheapest” way to fix? I’m assuming locating a G16 rear end from a parted out cart might be best. Any idea what prices one can expect to pay to get the parts and or repair?

Yep, looks like the torrington bearing on the governor failed. And the rollers went on a "magic journey"....

I've never sold a used G16 axle for less than $600, and no, I dont have any, they all sold.

Thanks for the info and what caused the damage. Is this probably due to the larger motor that was installed? Should the governor and bearing be removed on new axle? Just trying to make sure this doesn’t repeat itself as not sure why this would have failed.

I've never heard of this. Where is this bearing?

Not every single one had it. But it's at the interface where the governor shaft fork meets the spinning input shaft (sandwiched between 2 thin washers).

Would have never found that! I double checked and your right.. the case is there and every bearing is gone.. you said some did not have. Is it required? I would hate to put it back in with one for the same thing to happen again.

Trying to source all the obviously damaged gears and could locate all but these 3.

J0G-g6336-00-00 (Shaft)
JR3-G6326-00-00 (Gear Wheel)
JR3-G6320-01-00 (input shaft)

I think they added it for reliability, in some versions. (Well, see how that went).

The parts are so expensive, I would be hunting for a used axle instead. Consider that every single thing in there, gears, bearings, everything, has eaten metal shavings.

On weather to use that governor, or not... I bet the new motor has it's own governor, so you decide. Unfortunately, that bearing is a failure point I have seen before (that's how I called so easily).

(Some speculation/opinion ahead)
Maybe the result of a "completely bypassed" governor arm in the throttle linkage? Bet yours was totally bypassed. When the governor is connected, there is always some pressure on that bearing (possibly keeping the rollers inside). I have always advocated keeping the governor connected, and if you must bypass it, add a spring to keep some tension in the direction it would normally be held. I just keep the governor in place, but adjusted to the max, on mine.

Does that situation exist in the G 14 transaxle ?
