Axle Tube
Does anyone happen to know if it is possible to swap the axle and axle tube on an 86 Marathon to a newer model. It looks like someone did a number on this one and the bearings have dug grooves into the tube. I know the 87~89 tubes and axles are slightly longer or shorter, but would the bolt pattern fit so that I could use them? The 86 tube is impossible to find, and even a complete rebuild is not practical right now. Would it be possible to press an overside bearing into the assembly to circumvent the need for the C Clip? Just thinking through options and seeing if anyone has alternate suggestions.

I’m sure that the bolt pattern is the same. The question will be, are the axle splines the same? Most likely they are. I would not try to press an oversized bearing in as the hole is probably not round and it’ll get stuck (most likely crooked) and not last for any length of time. Your best bet is to swap the entire rear end.
